Death toll rises to 4 in Khulna fierce clash

The death toll from Khulna fierce clash on Thursday night rose to four as two more bullet-hit persons have died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
Of them, Saiful Islam, 35 and Zihad, 30, residents of Moshiali area died at early hours on Friday while Nazrul Fakir, 45, and Golam Rosul, 35, residents in the same area died on Thursday night.
Khanjahan Ali Police Station officer in-charge SM Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.
Our Khulna correspondent said that three people were killed by bullets and one was beaten to death during the clash near Eastern Gate area of Moshiali under Khanjahan Ali Police Station in Khulna city on Thursday night.
Five other people also sustained bullet injuries during the bloody clash.
The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 60, son of late Barik Sheikh; Golam Rasul, 30, son of Yunus Ali; Saiful Islam, 22, son of Shaheedul Islam; and Zihad Sheikh, 30, of Moshiali in Atra Gilatala. The five bullet injured youths are Afsar Sheikh, Shamim, Robi, Khalil and Moshiar. attacked their rival around 8.30pm on Thursday that triggered a clash, leaving eight people injured.
Local people rushed the injured to Fultala upazila health complex where duty doctor Tania Sultana declared Nazrul and Rasul death, OC said.
The six other injured were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) for better treatment where Saiful Islam succumbed to his injuries around 12.20am Friday, the OC said.
Meanwhile, agitating relatives of the deceased persons along with neighbours equipped with lethal weapons attacked their rivals and lynched Zihad sheikh around 2.00am.
The attackers ransacked and set ablaze eight to 10 houses and business establishments of four brothers– Zakaria, Zafrin, Kabir and Milton– in the area.
On information, several fire fighters team went to the spot and doused the flame within an hour, OC added.
Police and local people said the fierce clash erupted last night between two rival groups over arrest of one Mujibur along with firearms who is belong to slain Nazrul-Rasul-Saiful group.
Centering an altercation between Nazrul-Rasul-Saiful group and four brothers Zakaria-Zafran, Kabir, Milton group over the arrest and previous enmity, the latter group, at one stage, opened fire on their rivals, local alleged.
At least eight persons of Nazrul-Rasul group sustained bullet injuries, they said, adding that they were immediately rushed to local Fultala complex where duty doctor declared Nazrul and Rasul dead.
Hearing the incident to the followers of the slain Nazrul-Rasul group, they along with villagers swooped on four influential brothers, their houses and business establishments after announcement through microphone of a local mosque.
Talking to the Daily Observer, Additional Police commissioner of KMP Sarder Rakibul Islam said police arrested a criminal who is allegedly involved in the incident today from Jashore district.
Situation is now under control and additional police and other law enforcement agencies were deployed in Moshiali area, he said, adding that drives are on to held the criminals.
The bodies were kept at Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for postmortem
