N'ganj mosque blast: Death toll rises to 31 Case handed over to CID

Three more victims of Narayanganj’s Fatullah mosque blast have succumbed to their injuries at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.  
Now the death toll at Narayanganj mosque blast raised to 31. Abdus Sattar, 40, Nazrul Islam, 50, and Sheikh Farid, 21 died on Thursday while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.
Around 90% of their body skin surface was burnt, said Dr Partha Shangkar Paul, the institute’s resident physician. Five others are in intensive care, he said. “The air ducts of the fire victims are burnt. We are trying our best.”
He said 37 injured people were admitted to the hospital after the blasts at the mosque. So far 31 people with multiple burn injuries have died, as more than 35 to 93 per cent of their bodies were burnt. “We are continuing our effort to save their lives,” he added.The 5 people now undergoing treatment are- Amjad, 38, A. Aziz, 40, Rifat, 18, Md. Kenan, 24 and Md. Farid, 55. Dr. Partha hoped that some of the five would recover from injuries.
The deadly explosion occurred at Pashchim Talla Baitus Salam Mosque of Narayanganj around 8:45pm after Esha prayers on Friday.
Meanwhile, Police have handed over the Narayanganj mosque explosion case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The case is very complex in nature. We have consulted the higher authority of the police and decided to hand over the case to the CID to ensure a proper investigation,” Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Md Jayedul Alam told media on Thursday.
“We have instructed the Fatullah police station to hand over all documents related to the explosion to the CID officials,” he added.
Meanwhile, soon after the decision was taken, CID Inspector Babul Hossain, the new investigating officer, visited the Baitus Salat Jame Mosque with his team on Thursday. They collected evidence and talked with the eyewitnesses to get an insight into the case.
“Primary investigation has started. We will try to complete our investigation soon and we can hold out the assurance that the people behind the incident will face consequences.,” Inspector Babul said.
He also said that senior CID officials would visit the site of the explosion on Saturday.
