Another one person succumbs to his burn injuries in Chittagong after injuries sustained in a fishing trawler explosion on Saturday in Karnaphuli river channel of the port city.
‘Liton(30) died on Monday night at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. President of Fishing Boat Association Aminul Haq Babul Sarker said,”Liton hails from Ramgati, Lakhshmipur.
He was a fisherman in the ill-fated MV Monir.”With Liton’s death, the death toll in the trawler fire has touched three. Earlier two bodies had been recovered from the sunken trawler.
Head of burn unit at Chittagong Medical College Hospital Dr. Mrinal Kanti Das said, Liton had sustained 95% burn injuries.
On Saturday engine of MV Monir had exploded and the trawler caught fire. It partly sank as well. Four persons including Liton were rescued and sent to hospital. Dead bodies of Nuruddin Bhuiyan,45, and Nizamuddin,42,were found at the engine room of the trawler on Saturday afternoon.
Apart from that Nuruddin,43,Md Akbar,20, and Md Alamgir,45, are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Earlier report adds: Four fishermen including boat master sustained burn injuries and four more went missing in a fire of a fishing boat in Feringi Bazar area of Karnaphuli River under Sadarghat thana in the port city on Saturday . The injured are – Nur Uddin, 43, Liton, 30, Akber, 30 and Alamgir, 45. Amongst them, Liton’s condition is critical. Sadarghat thana police sources said coast guard forces on patrol here in cooperation of other boats in the river rescued the fire victims from the boat and later sent to Chittagong Medical College hospital . The injured were under treatment in burn unit of the hospital, sources said.Cricially injured Liton on Monday . Another boatman(maji) of nearby boat Jahangir told the fire services men that there are 8 boatmen on board and the remaining four went missing
Eye witnesses sources said the fire originated around 10:55am and soon smoke covered the entire area.
Fire Services sources said, on information, a fire fighting unit rushed to the spot and a coast guard team took position in the area. The fire afftected fishing boat – FVMonir and Haji Monir Ahmed is the owner of it, sources said.
