The death toll from the Moghbazar blast on Sunday rose to 11 as another two victims succumbed to their burn injuries in burn units of Dhaka Medical College & Hospital on Thursday.
The deceased identified as Md Rasel (23) breathed his last on Thursday noon while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen, Chief Coordinator of the institute, confirmed the news to the media.
According to victim family, Russel, a second-year student of Thakurgaon College, arrived in the capital city seven months ago and joined as a salesman, Bengal Meat store which was damaged in the explosion. Russel was the eldest among the three siblings.
Earlier, another burn injured Nurun Nabi Mondal (35), son of one Ismail Mondol from Shahbajpur village in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari, expired in the ICU of the DMCH burn unit.
Deceased Nurun Nabi was a van driver and stuck on the street in traffic near the three-story building when the explosion happened on the ground floor, leaving him critically injured on the spot.
Both of them sustained 90 percent burns in the fire caused by the explosion, Dr Samanta said.
Accumulated gas was behind the massive explosion, officials and experts said after primary investigation.
Police filed a case against unidentified people for deaths caused due to negligence on Tuesday, but none were arrested yet.
Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Ramna Police Station said they are investigating the incident to find those responsible. “After identification, we will go for arrest,” OC said.
At least six people were killed on the spot and 60 others injured in a blast that took place in the city’s Moghbazar area Sunday evening.
“Besides, seven more buildings were also affected in the blast.
