Tangail Cantt blast: Death toll now six

One more Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member died at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Wednesday night, raising the death toll to six in the Wednesday’s blast during a drill at Ghatail Cantonment in Tangail district.
Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the BGB sepoy posted at Dinajpur Sector sustained critical injuries in the blast during a training session with army men and succumbed to his injuries at the CMH at 11pm, BGB spokesman Muhsin Reza said. The other BGB and Army personnel who were killed have been identified as Senior Warrant Officer of Bangladesh Army’s 4th East Bengal Regiment ‘Manju’, 35, Warrant Officer of the 20th East Bengal Regiment ‘Parvez’, 46, and BGB member Lance Nayek Mohammad Ali, Sepoys Abu Sufian and Ekramul Haque. Eleven injures, including Jinnah, were sent to the CMH at Dhaka Cantonment.
The reason of the fatal explosion of a mortar shell during an exercise at Ghatail Cantonment will be investigated, BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed says.
The blast killed four BGB and two army troops and left 10 others injured on Wednesday.
DG Aziz Ahmed handed cheques to the family of the dead BGB members on Thursday. “This is a tragic incident,” he said.
The Namaz-e-janaza for the four BGB men was held at Peelkhana at noon on Thursday. Then the Border Guards chief handed Tk 5,00,000 to each of the family from his own fund and Tk 25,000 from the BGB Welfare Fund. He assured the families of all kinds of assistance under BGB regulation.
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was also present at Peelkhana on Thursday.
