Zee Media Bureau, New Delhi :As India reels under intense heatwave, the death toll in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana rose to 370, state officials said on Sunday.A day after 223 people were killed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the death toll increased to 188 and 182 across these two states respectively today, as per ANI.In Telangana, the intense heatwave today claimed 58 more lives, taking the death toll to 186 in the state. “186 persons lost their lives in 10 districts of Telangana as per information available till 5 PM today,” a senior official of State Disaster Management Department said.Nalgonda district recorded the maximum number 55 of deaths, followed by Khammam district at 43 and Mahabubnagar district at 23, the official said.Khammam district had recorded a maximum temperature of 48 degree Celsius on Friday.As per information available till last evening, as many as 128 persons had died in Telangana due to severe heatwave conditions that continued to prevail in the state. According to India Meteorological department, severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue till Monday in all 10 districts of Telangana.In Andhra Pradesh, the blazing heatwave today claimed lives of 20 more persons. “As per information available from different districts till 5 PM, 20 more people lost their lives today due to heatwave,” a senior official of disaster management department said.Prakasam district in AP has recorded the maximum deaths of 57, he said, adding, reports from some districts are still being compiled.”Severe heat wave condition likely to continue for another 2 days in Andhra Pradesh,” said KVS Srinivas, Duty officer, MET, Vizag.The toll pertains to the period from May 18 till Saturday evening for Andhra Pradesh and from April 15 till Saturday evening for Telangana, officials said.Meanwhile, in the national capital, streets wore a deserted look as people remained indoors as the mercury soared past 42 degrees Celsius. Delhi’s highest temperature of the season – 44.5 degrees, a scorching five degrees above the normal – was recorded at the Safdarjung observatory yesterday.The heat wave swept many regions of Rajasthan , Madhya Pradesh , Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal , Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.In Rajasthan, the mercury touched 46.5 degrees in Jaisalmer, with Kota close behind at 45.4 degrees. Churu, Sriganganagar, Jaipur, Barmer, Bikaner, Ajmer and Dabok too recorded high temperatures.Yesterday, the blistering heat wave also hit Haryana and Punjab, and Chandigarh which recorded the season’s hottest day so far.In Punjab, Amritsar continued to reel under a temperature of 43.6 degrees. Ludhiana and Patiala too recorded high temperatures. In West Bengal too, the effect of the heat wave was felt strongly.Over the past few days, Odisha too reeled under the heat wave. The industrial town of Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature of 45.8 degrees and authorities received reports of 23 deaths due to sun stroke.The mercury crossed 45 degrees at six places in western Odisha, IMD officials said.
