RAB-7 forces of Chittagong rounded up one death row convict named Anowar Ashraf from Chittagong International Airport yesterday. He was convicted with the murder of one insurancy company official.
Acting on secret information about his arrival in Chittaagong airport from Dhaka, RAB took positions there and managed to round up him after his arrival at airport at about 10 am. Anowar Ashraf is the son of one Kashem chowdhury of Panchalaish in city.
RAB sources said the death row convict was absconding since long. RAB sources said senior officer of Golden Life Insurace company, Fatikchari branch Noor Khaleque was killed by stabbing on April 2, 2004. Centring the murder of Khaleque, his father Md. Danesh Miah lodged murder case on August 2, 2004 before the Fatikchari thana and accordingly police submits charge sheet before the court and charge framed on June 16, 2009.
After taking depositions of 27 witnesses, the tribunal judge of Chittagong Md. Mominullah announced verdict of death penalty by hanging on August 19, 2014 in his absence under section of BPC 302 & 379 and another accused Golam Mostafa acquitted from the chargesheet , sources said. The convict remained absconding since the murder occurred, sources added.
