Death penalty to step-mother for killing child in Jessore

Nitai Chandra Saha , Special Judge (District and Session), Jessore, in a verdict, has pronounced death penalty to a step mother for killing her seven-year old son Rabbi at Balia village under Jhikargahha upazila in Jessore in absentia on Wednesday.
The convicted is Bilkis Begum, second wife of Ayatullah Khomeni of Balia village under Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore.
According the case story, seven -year old Rabbi died at Jessore General Hospital at around 2am on October 14, 2009 while he was undergoing treatment there after his step mother Bilkis Begum, second wife of Ayatullah Khomeni of Balia village under Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore feed him pesticide with rice at around 8pm on October 13,2009.
The child was taken to the local health complex by the locals as he became sick just after having rice given by his step mother at his resident on the night. He was then shifted to Jessore General Hospital as the condition was going to be deteriorated.
The police arrested the step mother for killing the child. Mominur Rahman, uncle of the child filed a case accusing the Bilkis on October 14, 2009.
Sub-inspector Dilip Kumar submitted a charge sheet against the woman on April 9, 2010. Bilkis was released on bail on September 8, 2010.
The court in its verdict, also fined Tk 20,000 to the convict, court sources added.
