Death of two students triggers highway blockade

The students of Mostafa Hakim College put up barricade on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in City Gate area following the death of their two fellow students in a road accident on Saturday.
Sudip Das, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah Police Station, said two students were killed and five others injured when a truck knocked down them as its driver lost control over steering around 10:15 am.
The deceased were identified as Wahidul Hasan, 20, son of Enamul Huq, and Delwar Hossain, 20, son of Shamsul Haque. They were 1st year students of BBA of the college, said Farhana Akter, a Bangla teacher of the college.
The injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Angered by the accident, the students of the college took to the streets and staged angry protests.
They also vandalised some vehicles passing through the area.
On information, police rushed in and tried to bring the situation under control.
Road communications on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway came to a halt in the area following the violent protest of the students.
Police seized the truck but could not arrest its driver as he managed to flee the scene immediately.
Garments worker killed in road mishap: One female garments worker died in a road mishap in chittagong export processing area on Thursday night. The victim identified as Rakhi Das, wife of Rajendra das of Satkania upazila of South Chittgong.
 She was working as a operator in Young One garments factory in the processing zone area . Police and eye witnesses sources said Rakhi Das was injured critically by ramming a city bus No.10 route while returning home after working hours in the evening. The locals rushed her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead.
