Tragic and accidental deaths of labourers are on the increase in the under construction Rampal Thermo Power Plant Project.
As many as 4 labourers were crushed in the project area when heavy cranes fell on them during the last 16 days alone ranging from March 02 to March 17. Now the total death rose to five during the last 7 months. Now the labourers are discharging their duties risking their lives.
It is learnt from the authorities concerned that on Sunday (March 17) in the morning while the pilling works were going on within the under construction Bangladesh-India Thermo Power Plant Project under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district all on a sudden the wirings of a crane were torn and it (crane) fell 2 labourers and consequently they met their tragic end. The deceased labourers were identified as Asadur Rahman (32), son of one Fazlur Rahman under Rampal Upazila and Nasir Uddin (27), son of one Ansar Ali of village Kalingar under Sadar Upazila in Chanpainababganj district. In the accident 2 other labourers were injured. Those labourers were working under a construction farm named Next Safe.
It may be mentioned here that 2 labourers were killed on the spot and another was fatally injured when a heavy container suddenly fell on them after the wires of a crane had been torn on Saturday (March 02) afternoon. The deceased labourers were identified as Firoj Ahmed (40), son of one Abdul Aziz hailed from the village Sholodag-Attaki under Bheramara Upazila in Kusthia district and Md. Nayeb Ali (45), son of one Elahi Pramanik of the same village. The injured laouberer was identified as one Shahanur (25). The injured person is still undergoing treatment. They belonged to an Indian construction farm named Power Max.
The Deputy Project Director disclosed that the dead bodies have already been handed over to the members of their families and the affected families would be given due compensations on be hap of the construction farms. It is mentionable here that on September 01, 2018 one day labourer named Sanjib of village Jhanjhania under Rampal Upazila was electrocuted and two others were injured while they were working in the Power Plant Project. The injured persons were given treatment in Khulna Medical College Hospotal.  
On the other hand, Adv. Mohiuddin Shaikh, President of Rampal Upazila unit of Bangladesh Human Rights Commission expressed his deep concern in a statement (given by him) over such repeated and tragic happenings.
