Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of eminent playwright and former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Prof Dr Afsar Ahmad.
In a condolence message on Saturday, he said Prof Afsar played a curial role in the field of education and research as well as in the country’s cultural arena.
His outstanding contributions to these fields will never be forgotten as his death is really an irreparable loss to the nation, he said.
Prof Arefin prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Dr Afsar Ahmad, a professor of Drama and Dramatics department at Jahangirnagar University (JU), died of a cardiac arrest at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in the capital on Saturday at the age of 62.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
