Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of freedom fighter and Ekushey Padak winning legendary gono sangeet singer Fakir Alamgir.
In a condolence message, the Speaker prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved family, a press release said.
In separate condolence messages, Deputy Speaker M Fazley Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of the eminent folk musician, the release added.
The renowned music artiste breathed his last around 10:56 pm on Friday night while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the United Hospital in the capital with Covid-19 (Coronavirus) infection at the age of 71.
Earlier, he suffered a cardiac arrest around 10pm at the Covid unit of the hospital.
Fakir Alamgir is survived by his wife and three sons.
