The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on Tuesday condemned Bagerhat war criminals Sheikh Sirajul Islam to death while sentenced Khan Akram Hossain to jail unto death for their crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.A three-member ICT-1 bench, led by its chairman Justice M Enayetur Rahim, pronounced the verdict in a crowded courtroom in the afternoon. Emerging from the tribunal, prosecution lawyer Sayed Sayedul Haque expressed their satisfaction over the judgment. However, defence counsel M Sarwar Hossain said they will file an appeal with the High Court against the verdict.Earlier on August 5, the tribunal fixed yesterday (Tuesday) for delivering its judgement. On June 23, the ICT-1 heard arguments from both sides on the trial of 1971 war crimes allegedly committed by the duo and Mohammad Abdul Latif Talukder of Bagerhat. However, Abdul Latif died on July 28 due to old-age complications.The three suspected Razakars are facing seven charges, including killing, mass killing, torture and arson attack, during the Liberation War. The tribunal on November 5, 2014 framed charges against the three accused for their involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War. Police arrested Khan Akram Hossain, Abdul Latif Talukder and Sheikh Sirajul Islam on June 3, June 11 and July 21 respectively.
