Death anniversary of Abdur Razzak today

The fifth death anniversary of Jananeta Abdur Razzak, a celebrated Awami League leader and one of the organisers of the Liberation War will be observed today.
Razzak, who dedicated his long chequered political life to self-determination, independence, peace and social freedom of Bangalees, breathed his last at Kings College Hospital in London on December 23 in 2011 while undergoing treatment there.
Following the footsteps of his political guru Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Razzak joined students’ politics in his schooldays. Since his early political career, Razzak came in close association with the Father of the Nation.
He was a front-ranking organizer and leader of every democratic movement of the Bangalee nation from the student life to till his death. He played an active role in the Education Movement of 1962, the Six-point Movement of 1966, the Mass Upsurge of 1969, independence struggle and the great War of Liberation of 1971.
Razzak was elected the general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League in 1966-67 and 1967-68.
Razzak was elected as a member of the provincial assembly in 1970 and a member of parliament (Jatiya Sangsad) on Awami League ticket in 1971, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2008 from Madaripur and Shariatpur.
In observance of Abdur Razzak’s 5th death anniversary, central leaders of Bangladesh Awami League will place wreaths at his grave at Banani Graveyard in the capital at 9 am today.Later they will offer fateha and join a milad mahfil there.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader has requested leaders and workers of the party to be present at the programmes.
Abdur Razzak Foundation and Abdur Razzak Smriti Sangsad will arrange a three-day photography exhibition on the life and works of Abdur Razzak at Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) at Dhaka University from December 24-26.
