Today is the 48th death anniversary of former Speaker of the then East Pakistan Provincial Assembly Syed Ziaul Ahsan. On the day in 1967 he died. He was elected Speaker in 1958.
He was the successor of Syed Abi Mohammad Ahsan, a land lord of Bamna in Barguna district. He established many educational institutions in his area.
Marking his death anniversary a Doa Mahfil was held yesterday at his paternal residence (Hasina Manjil) in the city’s Nazimuddin Road after Asr Prayers.
Relatives and admirers of the deceased attended the Doa Mahfil and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
