The fifth death anniversary of acclaimed filmmaker Tareque Masud and cinematographer and ATN News Chief Executive Officer Mishuk Munier will be observed today.
They died in a road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ghior Upazila of Manikganj on August 13 in 2011 while returning to Dhaka from Manikganj after visiting a filming location.
To mark the day, Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh (FFSB), Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Prjonmo ’71 organised different programmes.
Tareque Masud’s films ‘Runway’ will be screened at 4.30pm. Mongol Pradip (auspicious lamp) will be lightened in the memory of Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier and other artists at 6.30 pm.
A discussion will be organised at 6.45 pm.
Tareque Masud won three international awards, including the ‘International Critics’ FIPRESCI Prize’, in the Directors’ Fortnight section outside competition at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival for ‘Matir Moina’.
Mishuk Munier was a media specialist and broadcast journalist. He was one of the three sons of the martyred intellectual Professor Munier Chowdhury. Mishuk served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Editor of satellite TV channel ATN News.
As the director of news operations of satellite TV channel Ekushey Television, Munier played a key role in flourishing broadcast journalism in Bangladesh. He studied Mass Communication and Journalism Department in Dhaka University. After completing study, he joined the faculty as a part-time lecturer in 1989.
