The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday observed the 41st death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam with due solemnity.
Students, teachers, officials and employees of Dhaka University assembled at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla in the morning, said a DU press release.
They, led by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, placed wreaths and offered fateha at the grave (mazar) of the poet.
Then, a discussion chaired by the DU Vice-Chancellor was held on the poet’s mazar premises. Nazrul researcher and Emeritus Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor M Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer Professor Kamal Uddin and Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) General Secretary Professor Rahmat Ullah addressed the discussion, among others.
Bangla Department Chairman Professor Bismadeb Chowdhury conducted the discussion, the release added.
Professor Arefin Siddique said Kazi Nazrul Islam is our national poet as well as poet of world humanity.
“We get inspiration from him as he is laid on our campus”, he added.
The DU Vice-Chancellor also urged all to raise voice against all kind of irregularities following Nazrul’s ideology.
