Death anniv of Mukundalal Sarker today

The 40th death anniversary of Mukundalal Sarker, a prominent leader of anti-British Movement and a war veteran of 1971, will be observed today.
Sree Sarker was born in 1909 at Dharmaryer Bari Village under Muksedpur Upazila of Gopalgonj district. During his long political career, he played an important role in building strong resistance against the imperialist forces and actively participated in the movement against Zamindary system.
He was detained several times for his role against British rule.
Sarker was imprisoned during the Pakistan period in 1965. He was very close to Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, Sher-e- Bangla A. K. Fazlul Huq, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

As part of social welfare activities, Sree Sarker established several colleges, high schools and primary schools in different areas of Gopalgonj and Khulna.
To observe the day, special prayers will be offered on Tuesday evening at the Dhanmondi residence (Flat# 01-B, House# 25, Road#32) of Sree Sarker’s younger son and senior journalist Ajit Kumar Sarkar, said a press release on Monday.
