Father of ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury MP, late politician and parliamentarian AKM Fazlul Kabir Chowdhury’s 49th death anniversary was observed yesterday with due solemnity.
On this occasion, a Quran and Doa mahfil was held at the house of the deceased in Raozan Gahira village at 10:30 am at the mosque adjacent to the graveyard.
Also different organizations have taken up the program individually.
Incidentally, AKM Fazlul Kabir Chowdhury passed away on 9 September 1972 at the age of 56 at his residence in Dhaka. He was the former Leader of the Opposition in the erstwhile East Pakistan Provincial Assembly and chairman of the East Pakistan Provincial Legislative Assembly.
He was born on 1 November 1917 in the womb of Khan Bahadur Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury of Gahira village of Raozan police station and Begum Fatema Khatun Chowdhurani, granddaughter of the medieval Muslim female poet Rahimnnesa. He was the Vice Chairman of the Chittagong Port Trust, President of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Governor of the Marine and Mercantile Academy and Councilor of the Chittagong District Council. He is also the founder of Raozan Gahira Island of Peace and Raozan Govt College. In addition to active politics, he was involved in many public works and social service activities.
