Today is the 4th death anniversary of Abdur Razzak, one of the organisers of the Liberation War, veteran politician and a former member of Awami League Advisory Council.
On December 23, 2011, Abdur Razzak breathed his last at Kings College Hospital in London while undergoing treatment there.
Late Abdur Razzak joined students’ politics in his school days. Since his early political career, Abdur Razzak came in close association with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He played a prominent role in the organizational activities of the nation’s long arduous freedom struggle and the war of liberation as a leader of Chhatra League and Awami League.
He served successfully in different important posts of Awami League including its general secretary, presidium member and a member of Awami League Advisory Council. Through the Mujibnagar Government, the first Bangladesh government in exile, he played a most important role in the Liberation War.
He was elected as a member of the provincial assembly in 1970 and a member of the parliament (Jatiya Sangsad) on Awami League ticket in 1971, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2008 from Shariatpur-3 (Damuddya-Goshairhat) constituency.
Shariatpur Foundation will lay wreaths at the grave of Abdur Razzak at Banani in the city at 8.30 am while a discussion to be followed by a doa and milad mahfil at Sheikh Kamal High School at Lalmatia in the capital at 11 am to pay homage to the late leader.
