UNB, Dhaka :
Bangladesh and Japan have signed an agreement to operate direct flights between Dhaka and Tokyo which will start soon.
A total of four flights will operate once a week through ‘code sharing’ between Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Japan Airlines Com Ltd.
The agreement was signed on Friday during Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon’s Japan visit, said a PID handout here on Saturday.
The minister said a long-pending demand has been met with the agreement and it will help flourish Bangladesh’s tourism sector too as there will be a stopover at Bangkok on the Dhaka-Tokyo way.
Earlier on Thursday, Menon had a series of meetings in Tokyo on Dhaka-Tokyo direct flights and exploring Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) or PPP for proposed Exclusive Tourist Zone (ETZ) at Sabrung in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.
The government thinks the direct flight between Dhaka and Tokyo would make the communications between the two countries easier and strengthen the trade ties.
