DCC’s spl drive to make Dhaka clean ‘Citizens also have responsibilities’

Dhaka City Corporation has taken special drives to make the capital city clean.
“We have taken plans to make the city lively with special drives to clean every lane and by-lane within our jurisdiction,” Khandakar Millatul Islam, Additional Chief Waste Management Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation told The New Nation.
He said, the DSCC has also planned to conduct mobile court drives to expose its stern attitude to keep the city clean.
In addition, it also has plans to distribute leaflets among the citizens to create consciousness.
He said our Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon is keen to make the city clean with ultra efforts in the new year.
“You have seen that the mayor himself joined different cleaning efforts after the national polls to remove all election campaigning materials from the city,” he said.
To strengthening the clean Dhaka efforts drive, the DSCC has already appointed more cleaners.
“We are appointing 90 more temporary cleaners to join the regular teams in the 18 newly adopted wards to strengthening the cleaning efforts. We want to make the city more livable in the new year,” said the DSCC Secretary Shahabuddin Khan.
He said to remove all mosquito breeding hubs, the city corporation is honestly working together with the other agencies.
The officials of the DSCC also said that they are trying to keep watch on employees cleaning work so that they do their duties properly.
City dwellers from different parts of the capital said, some cleaning workers of the corporations are not regular in duties.
As a results, heaps of waste are found almost every lane and by lanes in the city every day.
“The city corporation workers are not regular in their work. We are suffering for their irresponsibility. Huge wastes are dumped on roadsides in Mir Hazirbagh areas,” said Ahmedul Haque, a resident of Mir Hazirbagh.
City corporation officials said the citizens also have to take some responsibilities.
“The citizens also have a responsibility to keep watch on the corporation’s employee’s work,” Khandakar Millatul Islam said.
He also said, some irresponsible residents are also involved throwing household waste on the roadside areas.
When contacted, Khan Mohammad Bilal, the Chief Executive Officer of DSCC told The New Nation, “It should be stopped to throw household waste in drains and road sieds. We may conduct mobile courts as per laws to stop it.”
Besides, the Dhaka North City Corporation is also trying to keep their jurisdiction clean.
When contacted, DNCC Chief Executive Officer MD. Mesbahul Islam told The New Nation, “We have already conducted some special drives to clean the city recently as part of the cleaning efforts.”
He also said, the DNCC is ready to conduct more cleaning drives if needed.
