DCC celebrates birth anniv of Bangabandhu

Dhaka Commerce College celebrated the 99th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the leader of the Bangalee nation, on Sunday in a befitting manner.
On the eve of Bangabandhu’s 99th birth anniversary recitation of the Holy Quran, special prayer and discussion was held at Dhaka Commerce College premises .
The programme was presided over by the Principal (In- charge) of Dhaka Commerce College Prof Md. Shafiqul Islam. Academic Advisor Prof Md Mojahar Jamil delivered his speech.
The welcome speech was presented by Convener of the Cultural Committee S M Ali Azam. The key speaker on ‘Bangabondhu’s life and works’ was Chairman of Bangla Department Prof. Md. Saidur Rahman Mia and Prof Dr A M Shawkat Osman, Director of BBA Programme spoke on the occasion.
Among the students, the speakers were Al Amin Nirob and Umme Sumaya Joya. A few lines from ‘Bangabondhu’s Oshomapto Attojiboni’ were read by Ankanee Chakraborti, Lecturer (Part-time), Department of English.
President of the program distributed prizes to the winners of essay competition. ‘Shangram theke Shadhinotay Bangabandhu 1948-71’ was the topic of essay writing competition and the 1st prize was achieved by Ehsanul Haque Fahim, Proshenjit Biswas got the 2nd prize and the 3rd prize went to Saraf Wasima Shoptorshi.
It is noted that, on this day in 1920, Bangabandhu, the leader of the Bangalee nation, the architect of independent Bangladesh and the greatest Bangalee of all times, was born in at Tungipara village of Gopalganj.
Through his dynamic leadership, Bangabandhu organized the Bangali nation to fight against exploitation and repression by the Pakistani rulers. The movement culminated in independent Bangladesh through a nine-month Liberation War in 1971. On 15 August 1975, the great leader, along with most of his family members, was assassinated by a disgruntled group of army men.
