A seven-day long 9th Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gold Cup Football Tournament-2014 will begin at Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium of the town here on Monday.
District Sports Association (DSA) sources said a total of eight district teams of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions would participate in the tournament.
The teams are Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Sirajganj, Bogra, Dinajpur, Rangpur and host Gaibandha Municipality.
The opening match will be held between Rajshahi district team and Dinajpur district team on Monday afternoon around 3 pm.
Whip of the Bangladesh Parliament and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini is likely to inaugurate the tournament as the chief guest.
Earlier, a press conference organized by DSA was held at the conference room of district collectorate building here with DC Ehsan-e-Elahi in the chair.
A prepared paper was read out by general secretary of DSA Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milan in the function.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Ehsan-e-Elahi in his speeches urged all to visit the stadium regularly and enjoy the matches spontaneously.
The DC also sought whole hearted cooperation of the journalists of print and electronic media working here to make the tournament a grand success.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique, additional district magistrate Farid Uddin Ahmed, deputy director of local government section Moklesur Rahman, and other officials of the DC office including the members of DSA were present on the occasion.
