DB to probe RU BCL leader’s killing

The murder case of Rustam Ali Akanda, a Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL) leader of Rajshahi University unit has been transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) from Motihar thana Police Station.
The RMP on Wednesday night asked the detective branch to investigate the murder case.
Earlier, on April 4, Rustom, a fourth year political science student and also the joint secretary of BCL Suhrawardy hall unit was shot dead in his dormitory room.
A day later, RU unit BCL vice-president Mehedi Hasan filed a murder case with Motihar thana police station against 8 shibir men including RU unit shibir president Ashraful Alam Emon.
Denying the allegation, Shibir claimed that Rustom was killed over internal feud of BCL.
However, the deceased family and witnesses have alleged the involvement of BCL leader in the murder.
The involvement of the BCL leader in Rustom’s killing is now an open secret on the campus as two BCL leaders and activists were seen beside Rustom at the time of murder.
