The Detective Branch of police will investigate an attack on a car carrying US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat in Dhaka.
Some unidentified men attacked Bernicat’s car in Mohammadpur on Saturday as she was returning from a dinner party at the home of a prominent social activist. The ambassador was unharmed.
“Necessary steps would be taken to transfer the case to the detective police in a day or two as per the general diary lodged by SHUJAN’s Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar,” Biplob Kumer Sarker, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Tejgaon division, told bdnews24.com on Monday night.
A shadow investigation will also be carried out by the police, he said.
Responding to a question, Sarker said, “We have already gathered some information after an initial investigation. But we do not want to disclose this for the sake of investigation.”
Soon after the incident, Majumdar told bdnews24.com that Bernicat had been invited to dinner at his home on Mohammadpur’s Iqbal Road.
“A group of men attacked as she was leaving the house around 11pm.
Some of the attackers were on motorcycles, the US Embassy said in a statement on Sunday.
“There were no injuries to the ambassador, her drivers or security staff; however, two security vehicles sustained some damage.”
