Detective Branch [DB] of Police have arrested six men for allegedly importing a highly addictive stimulant drug crystal methamphetamine, more commonly known as “ice” in Bangladesh.
At least 600g of the drug, worth Tk60 lakh, was seized during the raid, said AKM Hafiz Akhtar, Additional Commissioner of Police in DB of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), in a press conference held at DMP headquarters on Thursday.
Chandan Roy, the main dealer of the drug, was arrested from Gendaria area of Dhaka. Later, based on his information, his acompliced name by Siraj,
Ovi, Jewel, Rubayet and Kenny were arrested from Gulshan, Banani and Bashundhara areas, the DB official added.
AKM Hafeez Akhter said, Chandan Roy is basically a gold trader. But he was running the drug business behind the screen.
During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons said that Chandan Roy was the main dealer of drugs and `ice’. He brought the drug by air with the help of an expatriate relative named Shankar and used to sell them to the rich people children through retailers in Dhaka.
The police officer said that the price of 10 grams of ice drug is Taka one lakh. It is a highly nerve stimulating drug. Its origin is in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and China. This drug has been brought from Malaysia for the aristocrat people.
“A case has been filed with Gendaria police station and we will get more information by interrogating them during remand,” he added.
