‘Day-long seminar titled coastal water crisis’ held

A day-long seminar titled “Coastal Water Crisis and Future Solutions” was organized by Jagrata Jubo Shangha (JJS) on December 27, 2020 at Hotel City Inn, Khulna, Bangladesh. About 30 participants from different stakeholders including academician, representatives from Department of public Health Engineering, participants from local NGO and community participants from Community Resilient Action Group (CRAG) attended in the workshop. Md. Jamanur Rahaman, Superintendent Engineer, Department of Public Health Engineering, Khulna, was the chief guest of the program. Md. Ismail Hossain, Chief Engineer, Department of Public Health Engineering, Bagerhat was present as special guest in the program. The program was designed with different combinations including discussion paper presentation, panel discussion by experts, speech from chief guest and finally questions and answer session. The program was started with inaugural speech from Md. Zakir Hussain, executive director of JJS. The executive director provided his perspective on project to the audience.
He presided over the program and presented the overall objectives of the seminar among participants. In his brief speeches, he introduced all the participants attended in the workshop. After that, he emphasized existing problems of water crisis in coastal region of Bangladesh and later he seeks what would be the possible solution for water crisis in this region.
Mr. Zakir mentioned inadequate planning process along with natural influences as main causes for water crisis in the coastal region of Bangladesh. He ended his speech by thanking again all the participants and proceeding the program further. Following his speech, Dr. Mostafa Saroar, Professor, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology was invited to share his discussion paper. His presentation title was drinking water crisis and solution in coastal region of Bangladesh.
