UNB, Dhaka :
A group of day labourers on Saturday staged demonstrations in front of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office demanding withdrawal of the ongoing non-stop transport blockade and hartal enforced by her party-led 20-party alliance.
The day labourers, under the banner of Trinamool Hawker Samity and Trinamool Dinmajur Samity, gathered in front of the BNP chief’s office at Road-No 86 in Gulshan-2 around 11:45am.
Later, they staged the demonstration there with spades and baskets, and stayed there for nearly an hour.
They shouted various slogans against hartal and blockade and street violence.
Talking to reporters, Zohirul Haq Mintoo who led the Trinamool Dinmajur Samity during the demonstration said they are going through a tough time for lack of work because of the transport blockade and hartal.
“The blockade and hartal are taking their toll on us. We’ve come here to register our protest against it,” he added.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia called the indefinite transport blockade from January 6 as the government did not allow her party and its allies to hold protest rallies in the capital on January 5. The blockade still remains in force for 33 consecutive days on Saturday.
