A dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by Gazipur district unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is underway in the district. The BNP has called the hartal in protest against the imposition of Section-144 to ‘foil the 20-party rally’ at Bhawal Badre Alam Government College ground. The hartal began at 6.00am and it will continue till 6.00pm. No gathering was seen in support of hartal. A few buses, rickshaws, and vans were, however, seen on the roads. BNP`s Gazipur unit chief AKM Fazlul Haq made the call on Friday after a meeting of the party`s Standing Committee and senior leaders at Khaleda`s Gulshan office in Dhaka. The district administration imposed Section 144 at Bhawal Badre Alam Government College ground and surrounding areas amid tensions after ruling Awami League’s student front said it would thwart Khaleda`s rally on Saturday.
