Flamengo have reached a deal to sign David Luiz on a free transfer, according to widespread reports in the Brazilian press. The 34-year-old agreed to personal terms of a contract that runs until December 2022 during talks with the Rio de Janeiro club’s representatives on Friday, Globo Esporte reported. It added that his official presentation to the local media and fans would occur on Monday. Luiz, who has been capped 57 times for Brazil, has been without a club since parting ways with Arsenal in June. He had also been linked with Italian sides Lazio and Salernitana. The central defender began his career with Brazilian outfit Vitoria, where his impressive performances earned him a move to Benfica in 2007.
