Entertainment Report :
A Dhaka court on Monday placed dancer and choreographer Evan Shahriar Sohag on a seven-day remand in the Criminal Investigation Department custody in a case filed over human trafficking charges. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Yasmin Ara granted the remand after a CID plea.
The investigating officer of the case appealed to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court on September 15 for a seven-day remand of Evan, said CID Senior Assistant Police Superintendent Jisanul Haque.
Earlier on September 11, the CID arrested Evan Shahriar for his alleged involvement in sex trafficking in Dubai of United Arab Emirates.
The CID said that they had earlier arrested ringleader Azam Khan and two other members of a human trafficking racket that forced women into prostitution in Dubai after trafficking them as tourists. Azam gave information about his cohorts during interrogation after his arrest in July.
Evan’s name also came up during the confession, said CID officials. So far six people had been arrested in the case filed with Lalbagh police station. Of them, four gave confessional statement before the court.
The accused offered to teach the victims dance and a good career abroad. They were said to be paid Tk 50,000 a month in exchange for dancing and singing in clubs, according to the case statement.
