A Tk 50-crore damage suit was filed with a Dhaka court on Monday against United Airways (BD) Ltd and six people, including its chairman.
Five passengers of the private carrier who could not fly to their destination as per the schedule following the sudden suspension of its operation filed the case with the court of 1st Joint District Judge Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan.
The court will decide on October 16 whether it accepts the case or not.
The accused are United Airways, its Chairman and Managing Director, Manager (sales and admin), Manager (operations), Managing Director of Air Star Travels and Tools Ltd, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh and the Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary.
The plaintiffs are Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique, Nargis Akter Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Mohammad Makbul Hossain and Sohanur Rahman Sohan.
According to the case statement, the plaintiffs on September 21 bought tickets of the lone listed airline for September 24 to go to Malaysia.
The authorities suspended the flight which caused them a financial loss to the tune of Tk 50 crore.
The operations of all kinds of flight-domestic and international – of the United Airways remained suspended for two days from Thursday following an internal conflict in the management.
However, the operation resumed on Saturday after the matter was settled at a meeting of the Board of Directors on Friday night.
