Daily Covid cases drop to lowest in two years

Bangladesh recorded 22 new covid-19 cases on Tuesday which was the lowest number of infections in two years, with no deaths reported.
It was on April 5, 2020, when 23 cases were reported as the low daily infection numbers, health authorities data showed.
As per the latest data of the Directorate General of the Health Services, the overall caseload in the country now stands at 1,952,131 while fatalities are 29,124.
It showed that 5,861 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 0.38pc.
It showed that another 375 persons recovered from Covid-19 across the country taking the total recovery to 1,889,605.
The latest figures showed that the recovery rate is 96.8pc and the mortality rate 1.49pc.
Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases, with 17 infections.
DGHS data of the month of March showed that the country recorded 85 Covid-linked deaths and 8,000 new cases while 66,639 patients recovered from the disease.
Off the 85 deaths during the period, 44 were unvaccinated patients, 11 were vaccinated with the first dose of Covid-19 jab, 28 with the second dose and two with the third dose.
The country reported the first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
On January 28, Bangladesh logged its previous highest daily positivity rate 33.37 per cent reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.
Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
