The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has fixed a target to cultivate Boro paddy on 1, 27,716 hectares of land in seven upazila of Jamalpur district after harvesting Aman.
DAE office sources said of the total, 13,568 hectares of land would be brought under hybrid variety, 1, 13,396 hectares under high yielding variety (HYV) and 734 hectares under local variety of paddy.
DAE office sources said, against the target farmers have prepared seed beds on 5,800 hectares of land.
Of the total, 30,713 hectares of land would be brought under Boro cultivation in Sadar upazila, 18,720 hectares in Sarishabari upazila, 19,727 hectares in Melandaha upazila, 18,506 hectares in Islampur upazila, 9,693 hectares in Dewanganj upazila, 17,983 hectares in Madarganj upazila and 12,374 hectares in Bakshiganj upazila.
Over 5 lakh tonnes of rice is expected to be produced in the season.
