One alleged dacoit was shot dead by miscreants in the Port City on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Didarul Alam, 30, of Baharchara Union under Banshkhali Upazila here.
Sources in the Banshkhali police said that Didarul was accused in several cases including that of murder.
His rivals might have fired bullets at him while he was walking near his residence at around 1:00pm, they suspected.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Later, it was sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
At least eight persons were detained in this connection.
Police said that Didar might have been killed over land dispute.
