Cyclone Yaas has hit Odisha, India. The cyclone hit the Dhamra coast near Balasore in the state at a speed of 130 to 140 kmph on Wednesday morning.
It is learned that Cyclone Yaas will ravage various coastal areas of India, including Odisha, at a speed of 155 kmph.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin in the morning that the cyclone Yaas has landed south of Balasore in Odisha. During this, the wind speed at the center of the cyclone is 130 to 140 kmph with a maximum of 155 kmph. The will continue for the “next 3 hours”.
At the moment, the epicenter of the Yaas is located 45 km East-Northeast of Dhamra, 70 k of South-Southwest of Digha and 50 km South-Southeast of Balasore, it added.
According to the Times of India, cyclone Yaas has started hitting Dhamra near Balasore in Odisha at a speed of 130-140 kmph. The maximum speed will be 155 kmph.
East Midnapore will be the worst hit by the storm in West Bengal. Since morning, the speed of the storm in East Midnapore likely to be 90-100 kmph. The maximum speed will be 145 kmph. However, the impact of the storm will be less in Kolkata.
Sanjeev Bandyopadhyay, an eastern official, said the situation in Kolkata would not be dire like “Amphan”. The administration is working hard to deal with the storm. Due to the cyclone, heavy to very heavy rain will continue today.
