The cyclonic storm ‘Jawad’, caused by a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, is currently located 800 kms away from Bangladesh, making an impact on the front parts of the country. As a result, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with the gusty wind has begun in the country’s coastal region.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecasted this in a special weather bulletin issued on Saturday afternoon, forecasting the strong winds of up to 50 kmph. In such a situation, the country’s Met Office has lowered the distant signal no. 2 and display the local cautionary signal no. 3.
Besides, all fishing boats and trawlers stationed in the North Bay and the deep sea have been asked to proceed cautiously from near the coast. They were also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
According to meteorologists in Bangladesh and India, ‘Jawad’ could weaken and hit the Puri coast of Odisha
in India by noon on Sunday. Later, ‘Jawad’ will reach Bangladesh via West Bengal along the Odisha coast. Later, it will likely reduce energy and will turn into low pressure or well-marked low.
Rainfall has started in the coastal areas of the country due to the impact of the cyclonic storm’s front part. The sky of Dhaka has been covered with clouds since Saturday morning. Due to ‘Jawad’, rain is likely to occur in Dhaka on Sunday and Monday, inform meteorologists.
In a special meteorological bulletin (Serial No. 8) on Saturday afternoon, the BMD forecasted that cyclonic storm ‘Jawad’, which is located in the West-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, is moving further north and is located in the same area. It was located 1,005 kms southwest of Chattogram seaport at 12 pm on Saturday, 975 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar seaport, 850 kms south and southwest of Mongla seaport and 850 km south and southwest of Payra seaport. It may move further north.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 54km of the cyclone center is 62 kmph – which increases to 88 kmph in the form of gusts or gusty winds. “The sea is very rough near the cyclone center,” the special bulletin said.
Under the influence of the peripheral effect of the cyclonic storm, deep convection is taking place over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, for this, rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty wind or squally wind of 40-50 kph is likely to occur over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
