The deep depression that currently sits centred over east central and adjacent southeast Bay of
Bengal (near Andaman Nikobar Islands), is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by 9:00am Thursday and move west-northwestwards for some more time, AKM Saiful Islam, Water and Flood Specialist of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), told The New Nation on Wednesday evening.
The effects of Cyclone Bulbul will be seen in the coastal areas of Bangladesh, West Bengal, and adjoining north Odisha of India, he said.
The cyclones in the Asia-Pacific region are named from a list prepared by the meteorological offices in eight countries of the region. The name ‘Bulbul’ has been proposed by Pakistan, according to him.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48kms of the depression centre is about 50kph rising to 60kph in gusts/squalls. The sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre. Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted, distant cautionary signal 1.
