The govt has set up a cyber tribunal in Chattogram to ensure speedy trial of crimes committed by using information technology.AHM Ziauddin, general secretary of the Chittagong Bar Association, told that the tribunal’s activities began with the assignment of Jhalokati Additional District and Sessions Judge SKM Tofail Hasan as the judge of the Chittagong Cyber Tribunal.
The government set up a cyber crime tribunal in 2013 to expedite the prosecution of those involved in telephone, online and e-mail hacking-related crimes.A case filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act (ICT Act) is currently being tried in a cyber tribunal set up in Dhaka court.
These tribunals have been constituted in the light of the provisions of the Cyber Tribunals Act, 2006.According to court sources, a cyber tribunal has been set up against those involved in spreading lies and rumors online and to expedite the trial under Section 57.
Apart from this, the tribunal will try to disclose defamatory information, publish false or intimidating information, hurt religious feelings, degrade law and order, and collect personal information without permission.
According to ministry sources, six posts have already been created for a separate Chittagong Cyber Tribunal. There will be a judge with the rank of District and Sessions Judge.
