Participants at a meeting of Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) here on Friday expressed the hope that CWP would play a vital role to create awareness for resisting early marriage, development of maternal health and ensuring safe delivery.
“It is essential to create awareness on early marriage, maternal health and safe delivery,” said Chief Whip ASM Firoz while presiding over the meeting of CWP on the occasion of the 63rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, said a press release.
Women parliamentarians of ruling and opposition parties, including Whip Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, and women parliamentarians from Australia, Malaysia, Gibraltar and South Africa took part in the meeting.
The meeting informed the parliamentarians about the progress report of the “Strengthening Parliament’s Capacity in Population and Development (SPCPD)” project.
The foreign women parliamentarians expressed satisfaction over the activities of the Bangladesh government and the SPCPD project to resist early marriage and expand education.
