The Commonwealth wants BNP’s participation in the next national polls.
Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland has sent a letter to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in this regard.
BNP Secretary General received the letter on October 1, a senior leader of the party told The New Nation preferring anonymity.
Reliable sources close to BNP office said, the Commonwealth Secretary General said in her letter that a participatory election is an inevitable condition for functional democracy.
The senior leader said that BNP explained the political situation of the country to the Commonwealth Secretary General. It also described the government’s suppression of opposition parties and about the necessity of the level playing field for fair and inclusive national polls.
He said also that the Commonwealth secretary general might have urged the government to hold the next polls in neutral, inclusive, free and fair manner.
