Customs seizes shipment of 200- kg Viagra at Benapole Port

Customs authorities have seized a consignment of 200 kg “viagra” under the name of flavor illegally imported from India for the first time at the Benapole Port.
Customs Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury told it to the reporters in a press briefing at the Benapole Customs Club on Wednesday.
Red Green International, imported 500 kg of Flavor from India.
Customs officials seized the product on April 16 after receiving the secret information that the goods were delivered from the port in the evening.
Later, with the help of Testing Machine “Raman Spectrometer” and other instruments in the custom house’s own sophisticated lab, 200kg of Viagra was found at the end of the experiment.
Later, for further confirmation, samples of the product were sent to Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) for examination of highly sensitive products. After three months, KUET examined the product and reported it as 98% Viagra. The customs authorities confirmed the fortification after receiving the KUET report.
Despite long warnings about the smuggling of drugs, explosives and such harmful products to about 182 countries of the World Customs organisation, the first such type of Viagra seized in Bangladesh with imported goods by false declaration. When the matter was informed to the National Board of Revenue, they instructed all customs houses, custom LC station including Benapole custom House, to work more carefully in the future.
Benapole Customs Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury said the license of concerned C&F agent Ahad Enterprise was temporarily suspended. A high-level committee headed by the Joint Commissioner has been formed to probe the matter further. After receiving the investigation report, a criminal case will be filed against the importer and C & F agent, Customs sources said.
