Customs officer poses FF’s son imprisoned

The Special Judge Court-7 of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) sentenced a former officer of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (West) to 16-year imprisonment for joining government service posing as son of a Freedom Fighter.
Judge Shahidul Islam of the court passed the order, sentencing Md Moniruzzaman to a total of 16-year imprisonment
under three separate sections of the Penal Code. But the convict will have to suffer seven-year imprisonment as the sentence would run concurrently.
The trial of the court was conducted in absence of the convict and the court issued conviction warrant on Tuesday.
“The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Moniruzzaman in 2015 for forgery and the charge sheet was submitted in the court in 2016. The court yesterday delivered the judgement examining a total of 21 witnesses on different occasions,” Public Prosecutor Md Rezaul Karim Reza told media people.
The state counsel said that the court in its observations said that by posing as son of Freedom Fighter, Moniruzzaman insulted the greatest sons and daughters of the soil.
According to the case documents, the convict had used name and addresses of Freedom Fighter Abdul Samad through forgery and grabbed government service.
