Six business firms have imported casino and gambling materials in the country through false declaration.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) confirmed names of importers after investigation into the matter.
They are: Six Sea Corporation, Ninad Trade International, Best Tycoon Enterprise, New Hope Agro Limited, Puspita International and AB Trade International.
Most of the materials were imported from China, according to CIID officials.
They said that casino and gambling items reached Dhaka through Chattogram Seaport, Benapole Land Port and Kamlapur ICD.
The customs intelligence wing has already sought account information of the companies from the relevant commercial banks and letters of credits that they opened for importing the materials.
“We have identified the business firms. We have asked their representatives to appear before the CIID to face questioning,” a customs intelligence official told The New Nation yesterday.
The importers have brought products like gaming machine, articles for funfair, table or parlour games, recreational machine and mahjong, sports table, roulette game table.
They have also imported casino coin, casino chips, casino war game table, ander bahr game table, Baccarat game table, card lock (box type) and poker game chips.
