Chattogram Custom House thwarted an attempt to steal revenue of Tk 100 crore by using fake band roll (stamp) in a pack of 1 crore 82 lakh cigarettes.
These bandrolls were brought from Chittagong port through false declaration printed from China. According to Custom House sources, the consignment arrived at the port in the name of Arafat Enterprise, an importer of the fourth floor of Quader Tower, 128 Jubilee Road under Kotwali Police Station, Chittagong. The LC was issued from Union Bank Limited Jubilee Road on November 8 against this invoice.

An official of the AIR branch told media that according to the SRO of the National Board of Revenue, the stamp or bandroll has to be collected from the Security Printing Corporation of Bangladesh and by the concerned Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate After a month, the report has to be sent to the VAT implementation branch of NBR after verifying the supply and use of institutional based cigarette stamp and bandroll.
