A mobile court on Sunday sealed off two current net factories in Muktarpur BSCIC Industrial Town here and fined the owners for producing and marketing the contraband product.
The court, in a raid, led by executive magistrate of Munishiganj Al Amin, seized 180 kilograms of current nets from “Ghani Fishing Net and Ekra Fishing Net” factories and fined each of the owners Taka 5,000.
The court later set fire to the seized nets in presence of officials of the department of fisheries.
Noor Tajul Haque, district fisheries official, said there are 154 current net factories across Munshiganj district. Maximum current nets of the country are being produced in this district.
The court, comprising officials of fisheries department and police and RAB, said it would continue raids against unauthorized factories.
The contraband nets are indiscriminately being used to catch jatka or hilsha fish fry and other immature fishes in different rivers of the country.
