Several hundred members of different currency forgery and Agyan Party gangs are active ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Intelligence sources said, at least 40 gangs of fake currency making and over 50 bands of Agyan Party are now operating their activities across the country.
They are targeting the cattle traders, buyers and home-goers in the capital and other parts of the country, they said.
The members of the law
enforcing agencies are remaining alert about the criminals, including these gangs, said Muntasirul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Meanwhile, Police arrested three members of counterfeit currency making gangs and 17 members of Agyan Party from separate places in the capital on Sunday, the police official said. He said these gangs produce huge fake currency notes ahead of the Eid and such other occasions.
Like every year, they have targeted sacrificial cattle markets in the capital to release their counterfeit notes, the police official said.
In the last two months, law enforcers arrested over 100 persons and seized huge fake notes worth Tk 7 crore in the city, he said.
“Special patrol has been arranged at each market of sacrificial animals in the city,” he added.
He also said the DMP is working to create awareness about the activities of counterfeit money-making gangs, Agyan party, Molom Party in bus terminals and launch terminal in the capital.
The detectives also arrested three persons for their involvement in circulating counterfeit money and fake revenue stamps. They are: Abdur Razzak, Ramzan Munshi and Sentu Islam alias Taslim, the DC said.
Muntasirul Islam said they have been arrested from the Tejgaon Industrial Area with counterfeit currency of Tk 10 lakh.
According to the DC, the arrestees have said during interrogation that they had bought the fake money and documents from a person named Manun and had been spreading them.
They also confessed that they had been involved in the illegal business for the last five to six years, the DC added.
On the other hand, incidents of making people unconscious by Agyan Party men have been increasing alarmingly ahead of the Eid.
The organized gangs of the Agyan Party are roaming at different crowded places, including shopping centres, cattle markets, bus terminals and railway stations, intelligence sources said. Agyan Party men use sedatives and ointment to make their prey temporarily blind and unconscious and looted their money or valuables.
