Bangladesh Police is going to impose restriction on portraying the role of police in drama and movies.
In future, it will need prior permission from the police department to perform as the policemen and use their uniform in silver screen or television, sources said.
Quoting Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police [Media and Public Relations] SN Zahangir Alam Sarkar, the BBC Bangla service reported on Thursday that the television channels, associations of cinema directors, producers and distributors have already received letters from DMP with such instructions.
The police department believes that it gives wrong impression about police on the mind of general people when they [police] are characterized in the drama and cinema in negative or funny roles.
“The actors and actresses often perform in the roles of police personnel wearing their uniforms. Sometimes, there is no similarity with the characterized role and uniform. Moreover, the producers and directors do not take prior permission from the police,” the police officials said.
He said: “There is a government approved dress rule to wear police uniform keeping similarity with their rank and status. As per the rank, the police officials wear uniforms along with the badges.”
