Curbing violence against women for social advancement stressed

Speakers at a discussion here stressed for comprehensive efforts with changed mindset to eradicate violence against women for smooth social advancement.
They were addressing the discussion on ‘Prevention of Violence against Women’ jointly organised by the upazila administration and Social Equality for Effective Development (SEED) at Kawnia Upazila parishad auditorium on Thursday afternoon.
Presided over by Kawnia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Syed Farhad Hossain, Upazila female vice-chairman Shefali Khatun addressed the discussion as the chief guest.
Kawnia Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Manjit Kumar, Upazila Social Service Officer Shafikul Islam Paikar, senior journalists Sarwar Alam Mukul, addressed the discussion, among others.
Upazila level officials of different government departments and non-governmental organisations, public representatives, teachers, civil society members, women community leaders, lawyers, socio-cultural and human rights activists, religious leaders and local elites participated.
The speakers said that rooting out violence against women is not possible without involving all citizens including government and NGO officials, public representatives, community leaders, elite and people from all walks in the society.
They put special emphasis on creating awareness with cooperative attitude among males and females to achieve the desired success in such a mission that is necessary for leading the nation towards sustainable socioeconomic developments.
Narrating various types of violence against women, they said the women are being subjected to tortures and abuses in every family and all working places due to lack of adequate social awareness and cooperative attitudes.
They termed violence against women as the worst form of gross violation of human rights and main barrier for flourishing women leadership and talent, their empowerment and establishing their equal rights and social dignity.
They also put special emphasis on flourishing female leadership and enhancing their socioeconomic and political empowerment for eradicating all sorts of violence against them to ensure their safety, security and dignity at all levels in the society.
